Tribute to Brett Baker
Nick Childs pays personal tribute to a wonderfully gifted player.
Brett Baker has been Principal Trombone for 14 great years at Black Dyke, he has been an integral part to the band's success, and one of the best solo signings I have ever made.
In the competitive field he has won with the band, 4 Nationals, 4 English Championships, 2 British Opens and 2 Europeans tittles
As a soloist with Black Dyke, Brett has dazzled and entertained audiences with his virtuoso playing. He has over 20 tours with the band with solo performances including Sydney Opera House, to the Royal Albert Hall.
Brett has been pioneering with new solo repertoire including numerous world premieres and solo recordings to his credit.
The European will be a sad farewell, but we will be trying to celebrate in the best possible way. On reflection it's fitting that Brett was awarded earlier this year, Black Dyke's Pondasher Award for his outstanding service to Black Dyke.
Black Dyke and myself wish Brett every success in his new conducting career.
